A REPEAT

I posted this last year in response to an e-mail about what it meant to be a neo-libertarian..I think that with today's political climate where the only way to tell the difference between the democrats and Rinos is by the way they are trying to restrict our freedom more and more voters may start to think like a neo libertarian.

LIBERALISM VS CONSERVATISM
Definition: Liberalism 1.[n] an economic theory advocating free competition and a self-regulating market and the gold standard

For many years I described myself as a liberal and in accordance with the definitions above I reckon I was describing myself correctly. Our forefathers who fought and shed blood to form the USA were liberals--it was the conservatives who supported the King of Britain. Those who designed the Constitution of the United States of America and then amended it with the first ten amendments were liberals. For years liberals were called capitalists because they believed in an unregulated free market. It was liberals who fought against slavery because they saw slavery as not only inhumane but as a government sanctioned regulation of business that gave those who used slavery an unfair advantage over those who did not. Conservatives were those who opposed and resisted change and wanted to preserve the status quo. I never considered my self a conservative until recently and even now I just cannot connect with much of the current conservative movement although I damn sure cannot connect with what is now considered the liberal movement.

The problem as I see it is that the liberal definition has been hi-jacked by the socialist movement. The tenet of socialism is contribute according to ability and receive according to need. It started with the labor movements of post civil war days and gained strength with the amendment to approve income tax. The great economic depression of the 1930's gave it stronger legs and it really came to life with the event of the social programs instituted in the 1960's. Looks like the dictionaries are going to have to change the definition of liberalism and make it synonymous with socialism.

Conservatism actually means resistance to change. Resistance to change is a natural human defense mechanism whether it is with a religion or in the work place or in government. How many times have you heard " well, we have always done it this way..why change if it works?" In religion conservatism means keeping a rigid believe in what was believed by our ancestors. It used to be in government that conservative meant believing in fiscal responsibility and gradual change. Who hi jacked the conservatives? The current crop in congress have less fiscal responsibility then a sex maniac in a whore house with a corporate American Express Gold Card. The only thing conservative I can see about them is that they want to force their ideas of morality on everyone.

I reckon where this is all leading is that I am neither a conservative nor a liberal. I believe in accepting personal responsibility for ones actions and decisions. I do not believe that taxation for the purpose of income redistribution is in the best interests of either those being taxed or those who benefit from the taxation/ Those being taxed are forced by government to support those who are non producers. Those receiving the benefits will never know the trials, tribulations, and joys of being self supporting through their own labor.

I believe that as a humane society we have a responsibility to help those who cannot through mental or physical limitations help themselves. I also believe that we should give a helping hand to those who need some help due to some just bad luck or natuaral disasters. But help means help..not a gift nor should it be a permanent entitlement program.

I believe that the least possible government is the best possible government. I do not believe that a democracy is the best possible form of government--democracies lead to tyrannies by the majority. A constitutional representative government has..or at least did..work well for the USA for over 200 years. However, it has been hi jacked by the socialist movement and laws passed by judges.

I do not believe that freedom-true freedom-is compatible with most organized religions. True freedom means freedom of thought as well as economic freedom and freedom of movement and freedom to congregate. Few religions believe in freedom of thought and ideas--they call it blasphemy or heresy.

I believe that I have no right in anyone else's bedroom unless I am invited there. I stand for gay rights although I am not gay. A persons sexual choice is not my business provided it does not harm me and mine.

I support the legalization of most 'drugs' that are now being fought by the so called "war on drugs" that has cost billions of dollars and jailed thousands for exercising what should be their freedom to smoke a joint or destroy their brains with cocaine. True freedom means each has the option to decide for themselves what is harmful to them. If it kills them then that is their choice and they must accept the responsibility for their actions.

I could go on with this but my fingers are getting tired. The old code of the frontier that I was raised with just still makes good sense to me. Take care of the women and children and don't start no shit and there won't be no shit. The liberals and conservatives of today have started the shit and I reckon there is gonna be some shit coming back at them. I have found through the blog world that there are millions of voters who believe mostly as I do. Most of us call ourselves Neo libertarians. And eventually we will take back government from the socialists and the religious right wing. We believe in Freedom--true freedom for everyone.
